1. The Laboratory of Landscape-Water-Ecological Research and Nature Management was established by order ╣ 426-L of 23.09.09.
2. STRUCTURE AND STAFF
Structural subunits of the laboratory:
• a group of landscape-ecological research
• a group of regional nature management
• a group of geodynamic processes investigation
3. MAJOR GOALS AND TRENDS OF RESEARCH
3.1 The major goal of research is the development of scientific bases for environmental protection and nature management with due regard for natural preconditions and limitations, landscape differentiation and climate changes using the methods of physical and economic geography and information technology.
3.2. The major scientific tasks are the following:
• development of theory and methodology of regional nature management;
• scientific justification and development of programs for sustainable development of regional systems and schemes of land-use planning;
• landscape-ecological and landscape-hydrological research;
• landscape and landscape-interpretation mapping based on field surveys and remote sensing data;
• identification of spatial-temporal differentiation of geodynamic processes, assessment of hazard and risk of their manifestations;
• applied research on a landscape basis, including land-use planning, evaluation of the suitability of areas for various forms of economic activity, anthropogenic transformation of the territory, the dangers and risk of exogenous and endogenous processes, design and zoning of natural protected areas.
The laboratory has 15 specialists in staff (including 2 Doctors of Science and 8 researchers with Ph.D).
