The laboratory is engaged in the study of space-temporal organization of biohydrocenoses of the Asian Russia, biodiversity of inland water bodies at the cytogenetic, species, biocenotic and ecosystem levels.

Major trends of research:

  • Study of taxonomic composition, development, spatial distribution, seasonal and long-term dynamics of phytoplankton, phytobenthos, phytoperiphyton, macrophytes, zooplankton, zoobenthos, zooperiphyton and fish in running and still water;
  • Study of chlorophyll quantity and other pigment characteristics of aquatic algocenoses using the contact and remote methods;
  • Electron microscopic studies of diatoms and yellow-green algae, aquatic invertebrates and cysts of Artemia;
  • Development of methods of biological assessment of ecological state, water quality and bottom sediments of rivers, reservoirs and lakes using bioindication and biotesting methods;
Development of recommendations on environmental regulation, management and conservation of water and biological resources of surface waters.
